You mean editing the reference curve? The node version works this way, you can edit the reference curve used to generate the spiral and the final result will change as well.
No, I mean than live editing is a ability to tweak spiral count, radius, interpolation and etc on the fly.
And the node version gives me an error:

You haven't active the plugin in the plugin manager, that's why you get a node type of 'unknown'.
For you first question, you can do all that you've mentioned via the node version. But the node version can only create one curve at a time for Maya doesn't support putting multiple geometry data into the same data block.
