I've had trouble straightening certain UV-shapes with the regular UV-Editor in Maya 2017 and this tool really came in handy for that. It has a better interface than the standard UV-Editor, some functions are way easier to reach and set up (i.e. planar mapping) and the Unfold- and Straighten-Algorithms are better and less buggy. The installation instructions are super easy to follow, even for people who never had to use any scripts. Way better than the standard editor!

I kept using it till Maya 2017, Maya 2017 & 2018 now have all the funtionalities of nightshade Uv editor, the only thing that makes NSUV better is its UI (almost all its functions available as icon-buttons on the side bar, while Maya 2017 & 2018 have a big side bar with lots of drop-down menus you get lost inside them till you reach the same functions).

Working fine for the Maya 2018!  As someone still don't know how to install it...

Guys!  You need to know how the Script Editor works as this script is written in Python...

If you know nothing and want to install this NSUV editor, here are the steps to follow:
    1. Copy the files as the installation instructions tell you.  Basically all Maya scripts are installed like this!
    2. Open the Script Editor by go through the menus: Windows -> General Editors -> Script Editor
    3. There are two types of script you can use: MEL and Python.  Choose Python by clicking the TAB marking as "Python" on the bottom half window.
    4. Type in the script command "import NSUV", it is a Python statement and will not execute or run by itself!
    5. Press the Execute Button (Top Menu with a Blue Triangle icon) to run the script.
    6. Read the pop-up menu and press the create "shelf button" to get an extra button on the tool bar so that you can use it in the future.
