Feature Request

Spine MidIK Lock?

Submitted by:brandelan brandelan
So, you have a feature in your leg rig that would be really helpful for me in your spine setup. It's the knee lock attribute. Basically, I'm making a tentacled creature using your spine setup as tentacles. It's working well for the most part. The big problem so far is the nature of the MidIK control. It's constrained between the top and root controllers, which is fine most of the time. At some points, though, I want the character to lean on his "elbows", which would equate to the MidIK controller. In your leg rig, you make it so that the knee can be locked down to a specific point so that a character can lean on his knees. Is it possible to pin the midIK controller down like this? I've experimented on my own and using point constraints can get the midIK to lock down where I need it to, but it's very messy and hacky. It'd be super handy if this were just part of the rig. Thanks!

Hi, this has been added in version 1.4.3. There are two channels called "MidTranslate" and "MidRotate" on the MidIKCtrl which work exactly the same as the "TopTranslate" and "TopRotate" on the TopIKCtrl. This allows you to have them follow the MainCtrl of the rig, rather than average between the top and bottom of the spline. -Dustin

You rock. I've played with it a little bit, and so far, it seems to be what I was wanting! Thanks! -Brandon
