Driving blendshapes

I have my rig set op and skinned, and now want to drive my blendshapes in the arms with driven keys. 
If possible at all, which joints should I use to drive the blendshapes both in FK/Ik mode? So far i could't find any joints which have a clean rotation. The rig contains roll joints in the arms. 

Also, the rotation in both arms are mirrored in a weird way (rotating both elbow Fk controllers in the X axis in a direction moves the other arm in the other direction). Is there a way to fix this?
