The green and red buttons are for quickly setting up the transforms.
The blue buttons only affect selected attributes in the channel box.
!!!Be Aware when hiding/locking input attributes by channel box selections!!! If you select the input node attributes in the channel box, Maya automatically selects the node that contains the construction history. I haven't found a way around this yet. Any ideas, let me know.
You may not have to use the scroll list much, but if you do it will allow you to restore any attributes to the channel box just by clicking on them. Make sure you have the correct node selected. It's best to use the outliner.
To show shape nodes in the outliner: In the outliner click: Display > Shapes
